“Happy Infants to kind adolescents to gracious adults”
These lines from the book “The Girl Who Drank the Moon” stood out when I was reading it.
Well, it is my daughter’s book but since I read what is around me, I started on this too. Written by Kelly Barnhill the descriptions are vivid, delving into the minds of the magical characters. And I continued to read.
Opps, am not here to give a book review but to tell you how much that line made me think.
The line I have started this blog with and which you will go back to read again(I can see you smiling
Infants are of course happy. They are not plagued by memories or pulled down by future worries.
But Kind Adolescents? Gracious Adults?
Well, doubts start to creep in, followed by the question “Why generalize?” There are many teens who have all the markings of kindness, so many who have the talent to change the world landscape. (Hop on to Twitter and am amazed to see the success of the youth)t.
We do meet so many gracious adults, from different walks of life, and leave behind footprints that cannot be erased even by the sands of time..
Yet, our eyes which see the world today, have also witnessed some dreadful aspects, which are the reasons why doubts creep in.
The ability to reach out to another human being
can be natural for some, but for most, it was what they have witnessed somewhere.
It is oft said that children are shaped by what they see in their tiny innocent little minds. As adults, it is our responsibility to give them the right message.
At this moment, you might be hit by many issues, but think of the big picture. Think of how this will shape the person watching you 10 years down the line. The Legacy has been passed, good or bad.
Happy infants growing into kind adolescents and then into gracious human beings lies in our hands.
The other side of the argument is that an adult cannot live just to pass down a legacy, and they have their own emotions too. Agreed, but we cannot stand in the rain and not expect to get wet.
Emotions are real and so are the means and our intellect to handle them.
All it requires is the intent to pass the right message to the growing generation and this in turn means, we also need our dose of the right messages..
Affirmations just fit hand and glove into this.
A small quote, a display of colors, and an audio message can always guide us to be back on the right track.
It can make us pause to reflect and be conscious of what we are conveying to those innocent eyes watching us.
What could be better when 20 years later, a great human being says that they learned it from you.
The Legacy you pass on stays forever.
If you think your life today is a legacy that can be passed on, then that deserves a salute. Please do guide others in this line of thought. If you think there are many miles to cover in this journey,we here to affirm the same.
May you be the Legacy.
